Olympic Champions Moon and Stefanidi to clash at New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on Feb. 4

Boston, Mass. (Jan. 20, 2023) – Katie Moon (née Nageotte) and Katerina Stefanidi, the two most recent Olympic Champions in the women’s pole vault, will compete at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, organizers announced today.

After temporarily relocating to Staten Island due to COVID-19, the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix will make its debut at its new home, the TRACK at new balance, a new, state-of-the-art indoor track and field facility at New Balance’s world headquarters in Brighton, Mass.

Tickets for the event on Feb. 4, which forms part of the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold, are now on sale at www.nbindoorgrandprix.com or by calling 1-877-849-8722.

Returning to the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix, Katie Moon and Katerina Stefanidi lead the field in the women’s pole vault. Moon has come out on top in thrilling competitions at the 2020 Olympic Games and the 2022 World Athletics Championships, in both of which she took her only lead with her final clearances of the competitions. Moon also took silver at last year’s World Athletics Indoor Championships and is a four-time US national champion.

Challenging Moon in Boston, Stefanidi is one of the most decorated athletes in the history of the women’s pole vault. In addition to the Olympic title she won in Rio de Janeiro, she is also the 2017 World Champion, a two-time European Champion and a three-time Wanda Diamond League Champion.

Another great match-up is shaping up in the men’s 800m, featuring 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships gold and bronze medalists, Mariano García of Spain and Bryce Hoppel of the United States. García won the 800m at last year’s New Balance Indoor Grand Prix ahead of Hoppel in a new Spanish record. In addition to the world indoor title, García also became the first Spaniard to win gold over 800m at the European Championships last summer. Hoppel is also returning after a solid 2022, which saw him not only take the bronze behind García at the World Athletics Indoor Championships, but also capture both the US indoor and outdoor national titles at 800m.

In the men’s 60m, Marvin Bracy-Williams will be making his fourth appearance at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. Bracy-Williams is coming off the best season of his career having won silver over 60m at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade, as well as silver medals in both the 100m and 4x100m relay at the World Athletics Championships in Oregon. In Boston, Bracy-Williams will line up against the previously announced Noah Lyles, the two-time and reigning world champion and American record-holder at 200m, and Trayvon Bromell, the 2022 World Championships bronze medalist at 100m.

Those top athletes join the previously announced Jake Wightman, Gabby ThomasGrant Holloway, Trey Cunningham, Laura Muir and Ciara Mageean.

The 2023 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix will be shown live on NBC from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. EST on Saturday, Feb. 4 and is a founding member of the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold. The series of the best indoor athletics events around the world awards overall tour winners $10,000 and a guaranteed spot at the 2024 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.
