Huffer to run against elites in Boston SaturdayPublished by
BOSTON – There’s no question that Grizzly sophomore Craig Huffer (Newry, Victoria, Australia) has already put together an impressive indoor season, with NCAA Division II-leading times in the mile and 3,000 meters. But he’s looking for more, and the immediate question is which of those events he will be running against stacked fields at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix at Boston’s Reggie Lewis Center this Saturday, Feb. 5. Though currently entered in the 3,000 meters at the meet, formerly known as the Boston Indoor Games, Huffer and ASC head track & field coach Damon Martin are working to get switched into the men’s mile, the premier event of the one-night affair. Either way, both fields will be showcasing some of the world’s best talent. Huffer opened his ASC track & field career on Jan. 15 at the Univ. of New Mexico Lobo Challenge where he ran what was at the time at collegiate-best 3,000 meter time this season of 8 minutes, 12.22 seconds (8:00.10 altitude adjusted). That was followed by a 4:05.06 mile time (3:59.72 altitude adjusted) the next weekend at the UNM hosted Cherry & Silver Invitational. His unadjusted time was good to capture the facility record at the Albuquerque Convention Center, besting the previous mark set by 2-time NCAA D-I indoor mile champion Lee Emanuel, while the adjusted time was the first-ever sub-4:00 mile run at the facility.
