Emma Coburn, Jenny Simpson and Brenda Martinez Highlight 2018 New Balance Indoor Grand PrixBy Adam Kopet The women's distance medley relay was the highlight of the 2017 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. According to a meet press release, the three pros on that team, Emma Coburn, Jenny Simpson and Brenda Martinez will return for the 2018 event. Coburn led off with the 1,200-meter leg in 2017. She went on to win the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the IAAF World Outdoor Championships this summer. Simpson ran the 1,600-meter anchor leg in 2017. She secured a silver medal in the 1,500 meters at the IAAF World Outdoor Championships. Martinez, the 800-meter runner in 2017, raced in the semifinals in the 800 at the IAAF World Outdoor Championship, just missing the final by one spot. Then high school athlete Sydney McLaughlin ran the 400-meter leg. She is now a freshman at Kentucky and is already in the middle of her collegiate indoor season. Coburn and Simpson will compete in the 3,000 meters at the Feb. 10 meet in Boston. It was also announced Boris Berian will compete at the 2018 New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. Berian won the 800 meters at the IAAF World Indoor Championships and was a finalist in the event at the Olympics. He missed all of 2017 with an injury. |
