Olympus UT Senior Becomes Sixth Prep Athlete To Run Sub-Four Indoor Mile In Boston By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor John Nepolitan photos JoJo Jourdon became the first high school runner to win a Nike Cross Nationals title and also run a sub-four indoor mile. Jourdon, of Olympus UT, beat a stacked field to win the Junior Boys' International Mile at The TRACK at New Balance, the only event held Saturday at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix. The rest of the program is Sunday. Jourdon's time of 3:59.87 moved him to No. 6 on the all-time indoor list. Jourdon won the NXN cross country title Dec. 2 at Glendoveer Golf Course in Portland, Ore. to cap a stellar fall campaign. He is the 21st American high schooler to run a sub-four mile indoors or out, and the ninth to do it in the past two years. Drew Griffith, the winner of the Foot Locker Cross Country national title, finished second in 4:02.71, second-fastest in Pennsylvania behind Gary Martin. Griffith overtook Corey Campbell of Great Britain in the final 100 meters to secure second place. Campbell was third in 4:04.10. Clay Shively (4:04.55), Adam Burlison (4:05.07) and Owen Powell (4:06.46) finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. |
