College: During van Ingen's final season as a Bearcat, he rewrote all of his person records from 800 to 3,000 meters. Beginning with the Terrier Classic at Boston U, Erik clocked a 7:56.21 in the 3,000. Erik set his personal best in the mile at the popular and elite Millrose Games with a 3:56.37. Van Ingen competed in the mile at his third consecutive NCAA Indoor Championship appearance. Erik set his PR in the 800 meters in his debut outdoor meet to 1:49.17. Later in the outdoor season, Erik set his 1,500 meter personal best, 3:38.06, at the Virginia Challenge. This performance also qualified him for a trip to the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene. Van Ingen finished his collegiate career at his second NCAA Outdoor Championship. Erik showed consistent improvement in each distance discipline, notably in the 1,500 meters... freshman year - 3:51, senior year - 3:38.
High School: Competing for Marathon High School in New York, Erik was named All-Northeast Region in cross country as a senior with a 24th-place finish at the 2006 race. He placed third at the Class D State Cross Country Meet his senior year and 18th at the NYS Federation Meet.
